RatQueen (Megan)

Tattoo artist, taxidermist and Illustrator

based in Toronto, Canada

I have always been passionate about Illustration, art and design.

My greatest passion is helping others love their body through art.

I struggle with self esteem in regards to my body and tattoos have helped me heal my relationship with my body and I would love to helps others experience the same love for their body through art. I tattoo out of Bakunawa Ink in Scarborough.

I also specialize in Illustration, Painting, Taxidermy and linoleum carving-print making.

My hobbies are embroidery, crochet, sewing, and most importantly rat husbandry (the care of rats).

I own to rats named Lilith and Pumpkin. I have been owning rats since 2019.

Essential Information
& my policies

My rates are $120 an hour. One hour minimum.

Bartering and trades are welcome!

I only count running needle time during my hourly sessions.

What that means is: I only count when the needle on my machine is running. I have a timer on my machine. So any breaks, time it takes for the stencil, and anything else that may happen to extend the time in the chair, will not be included in the final price.

On a budget? I can work with your budget! We can split the tattoo into multiple sessions. The first session will be tattooing the essentials, so next session requires no stencil. From then on we can do as many sessions at a one hour minimum to work with your budget.

I am open to discussing flat rates for those on a tight budget and I am also open to trading for tattoos too!

An example is: A client knitted a sweater and a snuggle sack for my rats, in return I offered a 4" inch tattoo of their choosing!

To claim your design and tattoo session booking, I require a $100 deposit.

A deposit secures a time slot for you in my busy schedule.  This deposit goes towards the final price.

For example: If I tattoo you for 2 hours, instead of $240, the deposit will come off and the final price day of will be $140.

24 hour cancelation/reschedule notice to qualify for deposit refund. (I will make exceptions for being sick and emergencies I know things in life happen outside of our control).

No shows and 1 hour late forfeits the deposit. (Unless client communicates they will be late of course)

48 hour total redesign notice. Any drastic changes made to designs 48 hours before the appointment forfeits the deposit and we must reschedule the appointment to make time for the redesign.

Adding things like cursive or  a few more flowers to a floral design is okay and easy, I can make these changes on the spot and does not fall into the 48 redesign policy.

Asking for the design to completely change is where this policy comes in, an example: I designed a half realistic elephant sleeve with geometric shapes, and the client arrives and asks for  it to change to a back piece and be made into Neo Traditional style tiger with floral designs.

I only share custom designs face to face for new clients. For repeat clients I will send designs <3.

For walk ins, I am happy to design something for you that day and tattoo you, just please know this will mean you are at the shop all day and potentially into the evening and night time. Designing, set up (I take my time with setting up my station and will never rush it) and so much more goes into a tattoo and I am never going to rush my process.

What to do before your tattoo

~Get a good nights sleep

~Eat a nutritious meal

~Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24hrs before. You must be sober for your tattoo, No exceptions. If I find out you are inebriated at any point I will end the appointment.

~Stay hydrated, drink lots of water and bring water to the appointment. We do provide water and snacks at the shop.

~Shower and moisturize your skin. Do not worry about shaving, it is better we do it just before the tattoo.

~Wear comfy loose fitting clothes, bring a warm sweater, and comfy shoes to wear in the shop

~Bring entertainment (ex. Book, headphones)

~Bring a government issued ID with your date of birth on it. 18 or younger require a parent or guardian to cosign the tattoo consent form.

~Take the day off and be prepared to be at the shop all day. A lot goes on outside the tattoo process. Potential minor changes to the tattoo design, stenciling the design (This step can take awhile to ensure we find the perfect placement, I want my clients to be 100% happy), breaks (depending on how long the session is, I am going to take breaks and will encourage you takes breaks too! It is important for us both to be hydrated and well fed, aftercare, photos, payment and other things take up time spent at the tattoo shop.

~If you have children, please find someone to look after them outside of the shop. There are a lot of dangerous things and biohazards in a tattoo shop. A tattoo shop is no place for children. If you show up with children I reserve the right to cancel the appointment. I have had too many bad experiences with children at the shop and have made this a blanket policy I am firm on.

~Buy unscented soap and moisturizer for aftercare

Health and Safety

Health and safety is extremely important to me.

I have a blood bourne pathogens certificate. I will always take my time with my set up and take down of stations.

I will always do my best to set up before your appointment to streamline things.

This process that is often not seen is one of the most important steps.

If I am still setting up when you arrive for you appointment, I will continue to take my time. Tattooing in every stage is something that I will never rush for safety’s sake.

And for walk ins, I will not rush to set up. please make sure your schedule is free for the day when it comes to getting a tattoo with me.

I always use single use needles that are properly disposed of afterwards. If you would like me to open the needles in front of you and show you the packaging with the expiry date for peace of mind, I am always happy to do so.

Any safety questions? Feel free to ask!

During your tattoo appointment

Remember this is YOUR tattoo. This means we go at your pace, if you say you need a break, we will take a break immediately.

I do recommend not taking many breaks, it is better to push through the pain to get used to it.

Taking breaks can make the process more painful.

Remember to drink water, take food breaks. The shop has snacks, water and sometimes juice!

Communicate how you are doing. Let me know if you want a silent tattoo.

No questions will be asked.

If you have any questions please contact me through my contact form!
